Michael Clark, MSW, LMSW has 18 years of direct practice experience as a probation officer and a hearings Magistrate. He currently is the Director of the Center for Strength-Based Strategies located in Michigan (USA) www.buildmotivation.com. This Center is a technical assistance group for the training and dissemination of Strength-based practices. Michael has provided consultation to many agencies including the United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC), US Department of Justice (DOJ), US Department of State – Mediterranean Section, the US Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), American Probation & Parole Association (APPA) and the American Correctional Association (ACA). The Michigan-based, Center for Strength-Based Strategies (www.buildmotivation.com) is a technical assistance agency that provides training and consultation for the fields of criminal justice and juvenile justice. All of the training associates for the CSBS are members of the MINT who have worked with mandated client populations. Associate trainers have extensive training resumes from agencies and organizations across the United States. Center Highlights • We have provided contractual training for the US Department of Justice, the US State Department, Health & Human Services as well as SAMHSA, CSAT, American Correctional Association (ACA), American Probation & Parole Association (APPA), the National Institute of Corrections (NIC). • Michael D. Clark, MSW, Center Director has delivered training internationally for government organizations in Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Brazil and Malta. • Our Center has been contracted as the sole-provider of Motivational Interviewing training for the American Probation & Parole Association (APPA) • Our Center Director is a coauthor of the NIC monograph June 2007) Walters, Scott T., Clark, Michael D., Gingerich, Ray & Meltzer, Melissa, “Motivating Offenders To Change: A Guide for Probation & Parole Officers” Practice Monograph, National Institute of Corrections (NIC) – US Department of Justice. He also delivered a plenary address at the 1st National Summit on Motivational Interviewing in Criminal Justice in San Diego, CA (2010). • If called upon, our Center has a cadre of Motivational Interviewing coders (MITI 3.0) who can grade practice samples (via digital audio recordings) and ascertain competency skills following our trainings. Outside fo the MINT community, the Center for Strength-Based Strategies boast the most extensive client list in the United States for train-the-trainer initiatives in Motivational Interviewing.
