More About Me

About Me

In June of 2000 Brenda began her career in the probation field as a probation officer with the State of Nebraska. In January of 2006, Brenda was promoted to one of the first Specialized Substance Abuse Supervision (SSAS) officers in the State of Nebraska as the Community Based Programs Division developed and expanded.  Brenda played an active role in the development, training and implementation of Evidence Based Practices statewide including: LS/CMI, case planning and motivational interviewing. She worked diligently for 12 years within Nebraska State Probation with various roles of supervising high-risk adults and juveniles; she inspired not only her clients toward positive behavior change, but also her colleagues.

In June of 2012, Brenda formed her own training and consulting company, Motivate 2 Communicate, LLC in which she offers tailored certified trainings and curriculum development in evidence based practices, risk/needs assessments, motivational interviewing, personality assessments, and leadership enhancement. She is a highly sought trainer and guest speaker amongst the corrections industry and is in the process of expanding her business internationally.  She contracts with several local and state government agencies to assist in implementation of evidence based practices and programming. Brenda was invited this past July to train MI in leadership in an intensive training workshop for the American Probation and Parole Association Training Institute in Los Angeles.

Brenda is currently an adjunct faculty member at her alma mater, Midland University in the Criminal Justice Department. She recently developed a course in Effective Communication in the Criminal Justice and Sociology Field.  She also teaches courses in sexual offenses, gangs, and community corrections. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) as well as a certified MI trainer though the Wyoming Protocol. She is additionally a certified trainer through the National Institute of Corrections, Multi-Health Systems, University of Cincinnati and the National Curriculum Training Institute. Brenda furthermore contracts with the University of Nebraska’s Criminology Research Department in developing prison inmate behavior change curriculum, The Transformation Project.

Brenda is currently pursuing her Masters in Communication and Non-Profit Management through Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs. She serves as a Court Appointed Specialized Advocate (CASA) volunteer and is a member of the American Probation and Parole Association, Nebraska Justice Alliance, Metropolitan Child Advocacy Coalition, and the American Society for Training and Development. Brenda and her husband Jeff, who is Chief Deputy Probation Officer in the State of Nebraska, have 4 beautiful children and enjoy giving back to their community in any way they can.
