About Me

I teach MI to health professionals in the College and in the community.  I have also helped established an integrated care program at a community health center.  I am very interested in disseminating and sharing MI to both professionals and the community.  I am interested in creating effective addiction treatment programs for underserved diverse populations, and in understanding "what works" in MI.

Trainer Statement

I have been in MINT since 2006 (trainer: Steve Berg-Smith and Cristiana Fortini). It was a great learning experience that I still remember. Since then, I have MI trained medical staff and psychology interns to conduct brief MI in health care settings. I have developed and tested a culturally adapted version of MI with Latino heavy drinkers that emphasizes social context. I am very interested in the underlying processes that account for change, examining effects of MI translated in a different language, and testing the comparative efficacy of tailored versions of MI. I have enjoyed sharing and training MI in community settings and with emerging health care professionals.  I am very interested in how using MI can help to ameliorate the stigma that surrounds substance use and poor mental health, both at the professional and patient level.
