About Me

Mary is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, and she completed the MIA-STEP program for supervision of motivational interviewing. She is currently a PhD candidate at Oregon State University for her doctorate in counseling. Her research includes using motivational interviewing for relationship wellness checkups. Mary  completed  her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Additionally she achieved post-graduate certificates in Marriage and Family Therapy and Sex Therapy, with a specialization in LGBTIQ couples and families.  

Mary combiners her experience with motivational interviewing, with additional areas of interest. She has been a Board Certified Clinical Sexologist with the American Board of Sexology since 2006, and  currently serves as the Nevada Section Leader for AASECT (the American Association of Sex Educations, Counselors, and Therapists. Mary has been a conselor for over thirteen years. She has been an educator for over ten years. She is passionate about motivational interviewing for both the beginning counseling student as well as advanced practitioners.

Trainer Statement

Mary has provided training and supervision (including tape review and feedback) in motivational interviewing for clinicians (psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, sex therapists and others), teachers, psychosocial rehabilitation/mileu staff, parole and probation officers, emergency service personnel such as paramedics, and others. She has taught basic and advanced trainings in continuing education as well as Bachelor and Master level counseling students.
