I am interested in providing Motivational Interviewing training for challenging work contexts, such as criminal justice, mental health, and substance abuse treatment. Avani G. Dilger, MEd, MA, LPC, CACIII, is a certified Addiction Counselor Supervisor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Somatic Psychotherapist who has specialized in substance abuse treatment with adults, teens-at-risk, and their families.
She has done extensive research, training, and clinical work with traditional and alternative approaches to substance abuse treatment. She is the founder and director of the “Natural Highs – Healthy Alternatives to Drugs & Alcohol” Program, an interactive, holistic substance abuse prevention and intervention program that is currently offered in several Boulder high schools and at Naropa University. She works as a substance abuse counselor for teens, families, and adults. She is passionate about effective ways of supporting people with issues of resistance and ambivalence and is a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). She has been training Motivational Interviewing in the Criminal Justice System, in mental health, and substance abuse treatment in Maine, Massachusetts, Illinois, Nebraska, Idaho, Arizona, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii, and Colorado since 2005.
