About Me

Dr. Brian Lozano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina and Staff Psychologist at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC.  He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech and completed his clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina. As a clinician and researcher, Dr. Lozano specializes in the field of addictions and trauma, examining the effectiveness of motivational interviewing in both civilian and veteran populations. He is an expert trainer in MI for health care providers, including nurses, social workers, psychologists, addiction therapists, and psychiatrists. Dr. Lozano serves as a national consultant for the dissemination of motivational interviewing in the Department of Veterans Affairs.  In this role, Dr. Lozano trains and supervises clinical staff from a variety disciplines in motivational interviewing for the treatment of addictions and co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions. Dr. Lozano has been an active member of the MINT since 2014.
